As you likely know, the vast majority of authors are unable to make enough money from their writing to support themselves. Thus, it is vital that we have day jobs. Well, I’ve recently had some changes to mine, and now I am not allowed to have a subscription service. I won’t get into the details, suffice it to say, it is a potential “perception” of possible conflict-of-interest rule.
In the Shadow of Downtown is still alive and well as e-books with collections of episodes available at most any online bookseller you like through Books2Read (or Amazon if you must). I will likely change the format to have not just collections but publish more serially. Not sure yet, this is a new development. (On my website I have options to donate as well, but I’d really like people to buy the books and talk it up to anyone and everyone you think might like the story.)
Please follow me wherever you like to get your social media. I may continue posting on Substack Notes if possible, but I also currently have Threads, Instagram, Facebook and Bluesky (and Pinterest tho’ it’s just boards and boards of art, crafts and homesteading dreams. I’ll probably just be copying my Insta posts over there). You can also follow me on Goodreads, as well as leave much beloved reviews.
As always, my gratitude for my readers and followers knows no bounds. I’m extremely displeased by all this as Shadows has been built largely around Substack. I’m here to write stories and get them out to the world of readers, but it is my dream to make this a real career, not a hobby.
Full disclosure, Substack does let me save the emails of my current subscribers. I am looking into ways to have simply a mailing list for notifications whenever I release a book and similar, basic updates with links. Please do let me know if you are not comfortable with me keeping your email outside of Substack. I will NEVER share your information with an advertiser, and I have no desire to spam you. I think what I will do, once I figure something out, is email the Substack list a request letting you guys know what I found and asking you to sign up on the new site at will. That way you can vet their privacy policy and all that good stuff. I don’t request this lightly (I’m actually quite anxious) as I know it’s a lot to ask to sign up for yet another site.
Again, THANK YOU and Blessed Be, lovely readers
~Rachel
